The Victorian Government is investing $655 million to redevelop and expand Ballarat Base Hospital
The redevelopment will deliver a new multi-level tower and main entrance off Sturt Street, a new emergency department with an integrated mental health, alcohol and other drugs hub, a new helipad, a new women and children’s hub and an extra 100 inpatient and short stay beds.
A new and expanded critical care floor will bring together a state-of-the-art operating theatre suite, procedure rooms, an expanded intensive care unit, endoscopy suites and consulting rooms. This will deliver capacity for an extra 4,000 surgeries every year.
The new Main Works (MW) building will include the following departments:
- Emergency Department (including support spaces)
- Medical imaging
- Theatre suite, procedure rooms and Perioperative Services
- New inpatient units (IPU)
- Maternity & birthing
- Special care nursery (SCN)
- Central sterilisation service department (CSSD)
